
GHMC is the modified name of MCH. It’s full name is Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which is the urban planning agency of Hyderabad, Capital of Andhra Pradesh.
HISTORY:
For the first time, Kotwal-e-Baldia, the city commissioner of Police used to look after the Municipal administration in the year 1869. In the same year, a Department of Municipal and Road Maintenance was formed and it covered 55 km2 area and a population of 305 lakhs with Chaderghat Board. Later it got spread to 84 km2 area in the year 1921. First time elections were held and standing committee was appointed in the year 1934.

GHMC was formed in the year 2007 on 16 April. It consists of 12 municipalities and 8 gram Panchayats with MCH. The municipalities under GHMC are L.B.Nagar, Gaddi annaram, Uppal Kalan, Malkajgiri, Kapra, ALwal, Qutubullapur, Kukatpally, Serilingampalle, Rajendranagar, Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru. Panchayats are Shamshabad, Satamarai, Jallapalli, Mamdipalli, Mankhal, Almasguda, Sardanagar and Ravirala.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has appointed C.V.S.K. Sarma as the first Chief Commissioner of GHMC. The Government has divided the GHMC into five zones (south, east, north, west and central zones), 17 circles and 150 wards. Each ward covers 37,000 people. Each zone will have a Chief Commissioner and an additional commissioner with 17deputy municipal commissioners and three assistant commissioners under them.
