Dassault Rafale bets Eurofighter Typhoon to Win Indian Air Force Deal

French defence supplier Dassault Aviation, whose Mirage 2000 fighters played a vital role for India during the Kargil conflict in 1999, has emerged as the lowest bidder for the $11-billion ( 55,000 crore) contract to supply 126 fighter jets to the Indian Air Force. It will now enter into exclusive price negotiations with the government and contract for the world’s second-largest open military tender is likely to be inked next fiscal.

Dassault’s Rafale fighter edged out the Eurofighter Typhoon in the final round of a prolonged selection process that saw jets from American firms Boeing and Lockheed Martin, Russia’s MiG 35 and Swedish jet Saab Gripen getting eliminated in technical evaluation rounds. EADS, the European consortium that makes Airbus passenger jets, is a major shareholder in both Eurofighter and Dassault Aviation.

While the defence ministry made no official announcement, executives of Dassault and Eurofighter have been informed of the decision, which was welcomed by French President Nicholas Sarkozy.

The negotiation of the contract will begin very soon with the full support of French authorities. It will include major transfers of technology guaranteed by the French state,” he said. The massive contract going to a French firm comes as a boost to Sarkozy, who faces elections in April in the backdrop of a stuttering economy.

Defence minister AK Antony told agencies that no deal would be signed before the end of March. It will need clearance from the Defence Acquisition Council and will be ultimately signed off by the Cabinet Committee on Security headed by the Prime Minister.
The decision is far from a purely commercial one as it involves years of strategic cooperation. In April, US Ambassador Timothy Roemer resigned a day after it emerged that American fighters were out of the reckoning in the contest.

The contract for the medium multi-role combat jets comes with a 50% offset clause, which means half the value of the contract must be spent in India. This will spell good news for public and private defence contractors.

“This deal, along with the new offset policy retrospected, will get $6 billion through offsets and $6 billion through technology transfers. It will be a force multiplier for small and medium enterprises tapping industries such as defence, aerospace and homeland security,” said S Ravinarayanan, the chairman of Axis Aerospace & Technologies and head of industry lobby group Ficci’s task force on defence offsets.

For Dassault Aviation, whose stock went up 21% on Tuesday, the deal is a shot in the arm. Having failed to find a foreign buyer thus far, French officials had gone on record saying the programme will wind up if the project fails to land export orders. This would not have happened before 2021, when the last of the 180 planes ordered by the French Air Force is scheduled to be delivered.

With this deal, the French have consolidated their presence in the Indian defence space. In 2005, French firm Thales won a 19,000 crore deal to supply Scorpene submarines.

No city can match the spirit of Mumbaikars.Only Mumbaikars can do a thing like that. This is the thought came to my mind when i watching this video.Somewhat the spirit of the young people in the video compelled me to write this post.I’m writing about the dnce of 200 young people on railway platform of CST Mumbai.

Yes 200 young college goers took passengers of Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus,Mumbai by surprise when they started dancing on Aamir Khan’s movie Rang de Basanti track.It all started suddenly.A girl smartly dressed in jeans and shirt started dancing on the title track Rang de Basanti and soon she was joined by another girl and within flash young faces from from sides of the station started joining the dance.

This performance came a day after the third anniversary of terrorist attack on CST.It shows that no one can dampen the spirit of Mumbaikars. This type of dance is called flash mob.It is reletively new in India where a group of people breaks into dance publically performs and disperse quickly once the performance finishes.

While watching the video I saw many confuse faces initially in the video unable to figure out what is happening but as it started sinking in it brought smile on every visible face,old women clapping enjoying throughly.

The video has got maximum numbers of views after nation went viral for kolaveri song.

Burj Dubai which is also called Dubai tower is a tall building skyscraper under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is tallest man made structure ever built. The height of the building is 818 m (2684 ft). The construction of the building began on 21 September 2004 and it will get occupied on 4 January 2010.

This building is a part of “Down town Dubai” along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai’s main business district. The architect of this tower is Adrian Smith, who worked for Skidmore until 2006. The firm, SOM which is a Chicago based architecture and engineering firm is the in charge of this project. Samsung Engineering & Construction, Besix and Arabtec are the primary builders of this project. Turner Construction Company was chosen as the construction manager for this project. Burj Dubai was given a budget of about $4.1 billion in the US currency. The budget for the whole “Down town Dubai” is $20 billion. The CEO of Emaar Properties, Mohammed Ali Alabbar stated that the price of the office space at this tower had reached $4000 per sq ft. It was said that there were lot of plans to increase the height of the building since its inspection. The official height of the building is 808 m. It will be regarded the tallest building in 2009.

It was first said that the building will be completed by 9 June 2008 but it was delayed and got postponed to September 2009. Now, finally it was announced that the completion date will be on 2 December 2009.

The corporate headquarters complex of Google is known as Googleplex. It is located in Mountain View, Santa Clara Country, California near San Jose. It is the one of the company’s 23 U.S. and Canadian locations, 23 European locations, 5 Middle East locations, and 3 Latin American locations.

This consists of four core buildings which first were occupied by Silicon Graphics. It occupies 47,038 square meters. The office space and corporate campus are within 26-acres. Google occupied the former SGI in 2003. Google purchased these properties for $319 million. The buildings are of less height and occupy large space. It includes a gym, laundry rooms for free, two swimming pools, sand volleyball court and eleven cafeterias. It has two solar carports capable of producing 1.6 MW of electricity.

The headquarters are located between Amphitheatre Parkway and Shoreline Boulevard in Mountain View, California. It is surrounded by Alza Plaza to the west, Shoreline Amphitheatre to the north, Intuit to the northwest and Computer History Museum to the south. Moffett Field lies nearby to the east.

ABN Amro its a Dutch Bank, The bank is currently owned by RFS Holdings B.V., a consortium of Royal Bank of Scotland Group, the Government of the Netherlands, and Banco Santander.The bank was created as the result of the 1990-91 merger between Amsterdam-Rotterdam (AMRO) Bank and ABN, whose history dated back to the founding of the Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij in 1824.

At the time of 1991 and 2007 ABN AMRO was one of the largest banks in Europe and they had operations in about 63 countries around the world.

On April 23 ABN AMRO and Barclays announced the proposed acquisition of ABN AMRO by Barclays. The deal was valued at €67 billion. Part of the deal was the sale of LaSalle Bank to Bank of America for €21 billion.

On October 9, the RFS consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland, bidding for control of ABN AMRO, formally declared victory after shareholders, representing 86 percent of the Dutch bank’s shares, accepted the RFS group’s €70bn offer. This level of acceptance cleared the way for the consortium to take formal control. The group declared its offer unconditional on October 10, when Fortis completed its €13bn rights issue. Thus the financing required for the group’s €38-a-share offer, which included €35.60 in cash, was realised. Rijkman Groenink, Chairman of the Managing Board of ABN AMRO, who heavily backed the Barclays offer, decided that he would step down.

The Bank products are Asset Management, Commercial Banking, Investment banking, Private Banking and Retail Banking.
