Whaling in the Foroe Islands has been started since 1584. Foroe Island are an Island group. This is regulated by Foroese authorities but not by the International Whaling Commission .Around 950 Long finned Pilot Whales are killed annually but mainly in summer . Long finned Pilot Whales belongs to Dolphin family. The hunts of the whales are known as grindadrap in Faroese, This is the non commercial and are organized community level so that any one can participate in this killing activity. First of all the hunters surround the whales in the water with a wide semicircle of boats . Then they make the whales drive into the boat slowly into a bay. A bay is an area of water mostly surrounded.

Most of the hunter consider that hunting the whales is an important part of their culture and history. Animal killing as being cruel and unnecessary .Even though the Foroese will enjoy very much while killing .They will feel that summer season is the festival for them. End of November 2008 the chief medical officers of the Faroe Islands declare that the meat of the Pilot whales doesn’t fit for human consumption because the levels of the toxins in the whales.

Whale hunting has been a common thing to the hunters for a long period of time. It is known to have existed on Iceland .Faroe Islands before 1200 years ago whale bones found in household indicates that the Pilot Whales had a central place in the everyday life of Faroe Islanders. The meat and the bludder which is one of the part only in Whales , has been an important part of the Islanders diet . The part bludder has been highly valued for both as food and also for processing into oil and for other purpose . Parts of the skin of whales were also used for ropes and lines and stomach were used as floats.

Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin was determined the chemical structure in early 1940s. In 1945, Fleming got Novel prize in medicine with Florey and Chain. On March 14, 1942, the first streptococcal septicemia patient was treated with U.S. made penicillin produced by Merck & Co.
