Sardinia is the second largest Island in the Mediterranean Sea. The area of Sardinia is 24,090 square kilometers (9,301 sq mi). The nearest land masses of Sardinia are the French island of Corsica, the Italian Peninsula, Tunisia, and the Spanish Balearic Islands.

Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia. The Government president of this Island is Ugo Cappellacci. It is situated between 38º 51′ and 41° 15′ latitude north and 8° 8′ and 9° 50′ east longitude. The main plains of Sardinia are the Campidano, located in the southwest between Oristano and Cagliari, and the Nurra, in the northwest. The largest river in the Sardinia is Tirso. The length of Tirso is 94 miles (151 km). Sardinia has 54 artificial lakes and dams to provide water supply and electricity. The famous lakes are Lake Omodeo, and Lake Coghinas. The fresh water lake in Sardinia is Baratz Lake. Sardinia is one of the most famous ancient places in Europe.
