Shopping on Cyber Monday
The Monday immediately after Black Friday refers to the term Cyber Monday. It is the online shopping season in the United States between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is referred as a busy day for online retailers. The customers return to their offices after the Black Friday weekend who make purcahses online which they were not able to make in stores. So, the online retailers offer low prices and promotions.
The term “Cyber Monday” was invented by Shop.org which is a part of U.S. trade association National Retail Federation. it was first used within the community during the 2005 holiday season.
In November 2005, it was reported that online spending on Cyber Monday, excluding travel was $486million. There was a 26 percent increase form the earlier year. visits to the sites increased by 35 percent. It was reported that the busiest online shopping day of the year 2005 was 12 December. But it was found that only 10 percent of Americans shop on the web on Cyber Monday.
There were some criticisms on this word also. Some critics called for a boycott of the term since it is a useless media buzzword and nothing is there in this. In the year 2007 holidays, more than 500 retailers offered discounts through the Cyber Monday official site.
